Next of Kin is a unique and innovative
organisation, providing a valuable lifesaving service to both its
members and the Emergency services. Tracing family members can be a
really difficult task in an emergency, but it's something we never think
about - until it actually happens to a loved one or to you!! Did you
know, on average 40,000* people a day are taken to A&E in the UK alone -
that's a staggering 14 million people a year.
The Next of Kin service was created following the personal experience of
our founder Lee Hemington, in which his mother was rushed to hospital in
a coma and given just 48 hours to live. After 5 hours, Lee was finally
tracked down and he was able to pass on vital information that saved his
mother's life, although she spent months in hospital afterwards before
making a full recovery. The police often have a difficult time trying to
locate relatives in an emergency. This is because a credit card, driving
licence, pension book etc. will only tell them who that person is - not
how to contact their relatives. The Association of Chief Police Officers
have agreed to support Next of Kin International and recommend
that all UK forces be made aware of the card. |
